The Arabian Peninsula

In 2006 I embarked on a long-term project photographing the modern-day Arabian Peninsula, a region whose history, people and cultures fascinate me; a region where the gaze takes in at a single glance the mountains, desert and sea; a region where the history and geography have inspired countless legends and tales of adventure.

The deliberate use by its inhabitants of vibrant colors in an otherwise stark natural environment prompted me to revert to color photography.

The dazzling stars in the boundless sky, and a sensation of the vastness of the desert at times aroused in me an overwhelming sense of fulfillment. This was among the many rewards of these solitary travels through the vast expanses extending from the desert to the sea dotted with some of today’s most futuristic cities.
